Eligibility for Vocational Rehabilitation
Vocational rehabilitation helps people with visual disabilities who are working or want to work. Find out if you are eligible for this program.
Eligibility requirements
To qualify for vocational rehabilitation, you need to meet the following requirements:
You are blind, deaf-blind, or have low vision
Your visual impairment makes it difficult to work
You need help from vocational rehabilitation services to get or keep a job
You can legally live and work in the United States
A vocational rehabilitation counselor can help determine if you are eligible.
Eligibility for people who receive benefits
Alternatively, you may be eligible if you receive one of the following types of benefits:
Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI)
Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
You will need to provide proof that you receive benefits because of a visual disability.
Residency requirements
You do not need to be a Washington resident to qualify for vocational rehabilitation. However, you need to participate in vocational rehabilitation services in the state. These may include career planning meetings and assessments to identify your needs, strengths, and desires.
In some cases, you can keep receiving our services after moving to another state for a job offer or training.
