About the Application Process

Successful application for YES2 requires several steps.

  1. Share the link to the Reference Forms with your TSVI and Orientation and Mobility (O&M) Instructor.

  2. Write your student Cover Letter

  3. Sign and return the Consent Form

  4. Complete the application to apply for the Youth Employment Solutions (YES2) 2026 program

  5. Submit all application materials by February 1, 2026

Cover Letter

When applying for a job or program, people are often asked to write a cover letter. A cover letter is a short letter that helps others get to know you — your interests, strengths, and goals.

For YES2, this letter helps the program team learn who you are and why you want to be part of the program.

This letter must be written by you, the student. Parents, guardians, or teachers can help you plan, but the words should be your own.

Instructions

  1. Write your cover letter in paragraph form using your own words.

  2. You don’t have to count every word, but aim for a full, complete letter — about one page long.

  3. This shows effort and helps the reader understand who you are.

  4. Use the questions below to guide what you write. You do not need to restate the questions in your letter.

    • Who are you? Tell us a little about yourself — your strengths and what makes you unique.

    • Why YES2? Explain why you want to join the YES2 program.

    • What do you hope to learn or gain? Share what you would like to get out of being part of YES2.

    • What are your goals? Talk about something you want to achieve during the program.

    • Have you worked or volunteered before? If yes, tell us about it. Include any support or accommodations that helped you.

    • What do you enjoy doing in your free time? Include hobbies, clubs, or activities that are important to you.

Submitting Your Letter

Submit your completed cover letter to the YES2 Program Director on or before February 1, 2026. Applications without a cover letter will be considered incomplete.

 

Consent Form

The Department of Services for the Blind (DSB) can help you better if we are able to work with other agencies and professionals that know you and your family.  By signing this form, you are giving permission for DSB, and the agencies and individuals listed on the form to use and share confidential information about you.

To evaluate your application, a panel of individuals will review your qualifications. The DSB YES2 Program needs permission to share your application materials with these individuals. The selection panel is made up of individuals from:

  • Washington State Department of Services for the Blind (DSB)

  • Washington State School for the Blind (WSSB)

  • Washington Vocational Services (WVS) - this organization evaluates applicants' suitability to work in the various workplaces. 

If you have questions about how DSB shares client confidential information or your privacy rights, please consult the DSB Notice of Privacy Practices or ask the person giving you this form.

Application

The online application consists of multiple sections and collects a lot of information. You may need to collect documents or information from several sources to complete the application. You must complete the application in one sitting; unfortunately, you cannot save and return to the application form later.

To prepare, the list of question is available for download. By reviewing the questions and collecting all information in advance, you will be ready when you sign into the application.

DO NOT USE YOUR SCHOOL EMAIL ON THE APPLICATION. You will need to use an email address that can be accessed over the summer.
