If you have vision loss and qualify for our independent living services, we offer tools and training to improve your daily life. Learn how we can help with aids and devices.

Assistive technology for vision loss

Assistive technology is an aid or device that makes tasks easier or possible if you are Blind, Deaf-Blind, or Low Vision. Examples of assistive technology include:

  • Magnifiers to help with reading, arts and crafts, and other activities
  • Special sunglasses to help with glare
  • Talking watches
  • Canes to help with walking around
  • Large-print calendars
  • Large-button phones, calculators, and other home devices
  • Tactile dots for appliances and home electronics
  • Kitchen devices, including liquid level indicators for pouring hot liquids
  • Special glasses to make it easier to see your TV

How we can help

We offer free help with assistive technology through our independent living services program. If you’re eligible for these services, our team can:

  • Determine what skills, tools, and resources you need
  • Provide you with aids and devices
  • Teach you how to use assistive technology
  • Help you become more independent and confident in your home or community

How to return equipment to DSB

Please return any equipment with DSB-IL labels that you no longer need. This includes:

  • Phones
  • Tablets
  • Handheld digital magnifiers
  • Smart speakers, such as Google Nest or Amazon's Alexa devices
  • Text-to-speech readers
