Explorers Tech to Table

Event description

Tech to Table is a lively, interactive event where children ages seven to thirteen discover assistive technology in a supportive, collaborative environment and then practice their cooking skills as they create a harvest themed lunch with friends. 

Explorers will have the chance to:

• Listen and solve riddles with screen reader technology like JAWS and VoiceOver
• Explore braille in fun new ways
• Experiment with magnifiers and devices for low vision
• Investigate everyday assistive technology that can be used in the classroom and at home
• Create sweet and savory treats
• Solve puzzles and play games using assistive technology
• Practice working in a groups

For lunch we will have a hands-on, harvest cooking event where we will explore fall flavors, build independent living skills, and practice safe kitchen techniques together. Explorers will rotate through tactile exploration, kitchen tool-use, and sensory exploration. We'll end our time preparing mini pizzas or quesadillas with apple nachos.

The event wraps up with a shared lunch feast and a gratitude circle, giving children a chance to reflect on the new skills they have gained and connect with peers in a fun and supportive setting.
