This activity is ideal for students statewide who are Blind, Deaf-Blind, or Low Vision, between the ages of 14 and 21 who are active participants of DSB VR or Pre-ETS Services.

Event description

Learning Independence For Today & Tomorrow

Join us for a campus tour of the Learning Independence For Today and Tomorrow (LIFTT) program located at the Washington State School for the Blind (WSSB) in Vancouver, Washington. 

LIFTT is a 9-month program for high school graduates who need additional guidance with learning the skills necessary for independence in college and beyond. 

Workshop participants will tour the LIFTT facility, meet with current LIFTT students, and enjoy a lunch they prepared for the event. 

In addition, participants in the Puget Sound area who are interested in practicing their travel skills can ride the Amtrak Cascades to and from the event starting in Seattle. The group will leave from King Street Station. Students who live close to stations on the Amtrak Cascades route also can join the group at the remaining Amtrak stops.

The Tour will begin promptly at 11:00 a.m.

Amtrak Departure Schedule

Participants riding the train will need to arrive at the station before the scheduled departure time to allow time for boarding. Train schedules cannot be changed for late arrivals.

  • Tukwila, 7:10 a.m.
  • Tacoma, 7:45 a.m.
  • Olympia/Lacey, 8:15 a.m.
  • Centralia, 8:35 a.m.
  • Kelso/Longview, 9:15 a.m.

Students who are riding the train will receive additional information after registration.

Students who live more than 50 miles away from WSSB may qualify for travel assistance. If interested in learning more about travel assistance, please note it on the registration form.
