Event description

The Amerability Entertainment Experience - Drama Camp in Tacoma will introduce participants to new and fun inclusive sessions that enable them to identify their journey into the Entertainment Industry with strong mentorship from industry professionals. In addition, they can participate drama sessions – with improv scripts and scenes to act out – to gain valuable industry experience.
Workshop/Program Highlights
The Entertainment Experience is designed to introduce students to self-advocacy through training and mentoring for positions within the Entertainment Industry. Industry specialists – including a music producer, a performer, and a drama teacher – help guide attendees through the ins and outs of the industry.
Planned activities include an overview of the industry, presentations by each participant to build confidence in interviewing, networking, and drama production and marketing for industry placement. Students will learn the various pathways to careers in the industry, and which would best meet their goals.
There will be a strong focus on assistive technology with CATT Technologies as our partner. They will share information on industry-related equipment used in drama production and content editing.
Participants will
- Learn entertainment industry engagement strategies and networking.
- Build self-confidence through presentations and collaboration sessions.
- Work with industry professionals to gain skills to increase their hire ability in the industry.
- Gain work experience through music and drama industry sessions.
- Discuss specific pathways with Amerability mentors and develop a plan to move forward.

Amerability
Amerability is an experienced DSB provider dedicated to creating unique and transformative opportunities for students across the State of Washington. Amerability staff bring their lived experience to students and these staff have a strong understanding of what it means to be Blind or Low Vision and to encourage participants to achieve their goals through actions and provide mentoring and coaching through the process of starting points to successful transition outcomes.

Northwest Center for Assistive Technology Training (CATT-NW)
The Northwest Center for Assistive Technology Training (CATT-NW) Program is a collaboration between the American Printing House for the Blind (APH), the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind (AIDB) and the Washington State School for the Blind (WSSB).
Their mission is to provide assistive technology training to teachers of blind/low vision children, utilizing a "train the trainer" model, while also providing support/training for other professionals working with blind or low vision children as well as parents/caregivers of a child who is blind or has low vision, including those with additional disabilities.

This camp is ideal for students who are Blind, Deaf-Blind or Low Vision, between the ages of 14 and 21, who are active participants of DSB VR or Pre-ETS Services.
Attendees need to be currently living in Washington State, enrolled in a Vocational Rehabilitation plan with Department of Services for the Blind, and between 14 - 21 years old, who are Blind, Deaf-Blind or Low Vision.

Amerability staff will meet students traveling from Washington State School for the Blind. Details will be provided to registered participants.
