Students interested in attending YES 1, YES 2, or Bridge, but would like more practice with personal independence and life skills training are encouraged to take the LEAP!
LEAP is series of one or two week-long experience hosted across the state. LEAP provides students who need support in learning job skills with the opportunity to gain more exposure to personal independence and develop life skills techniques.
LEAPers will focus on work readiness training, including how to:
- write a resume
- interact with prospective employers
- dress for success
- prepare for an interview
Students will explore the community and learn about professions by volunteering and participating in a variety of interactive, hands-on, and fun activities. The two-week programs may also offer work experience, with the students taking on paid, part-time employment! *
LEAP students will practice the expectations of the working world including supervised commuting and on-time arrival at the workplace, orientation and mobility, social and communication skills, and even preparing their own lunches.
Fees
DSB does not charge any fees for participation in its summer programs. However, students should bring money for incidentals, social activities, snacks, etc. More details on LEAP student needs will be provided to enrolled students and families.
